Recycling within the Martha's Vineyard Refuse District
If you have a dump sticker on your car from Aquinnah, Chilmark, West Tisbury or Edgartown, you can recycle certain items free of charge at their town dumps. The Aquinnah, Chilmark, West Tisbury and Edgartown Dumps are all local Dropoff (LDO) facilities for the Martha's Vineyard Regional Refuse Disposal District (MVRRD). The LDO facilities accept recyclables in the form of [1] "single stream" recyclables consisting of kitchen household metal and plastic containers as one receives when buying groceries, and [2] paper and cardboard, properly bundled. These are accepted free of charge, the handling of which is paid for by the town taxes you pay. Please clean all food scraps from these items.
Stickers are available at each Drop Off Center (See Attendant) Please present any kind of proof that you live in one of the four District towns, (ie: phone, electric or tax bill) Edgartown, Chilmark, Aquinnah & West Tisbury. You do not need a sticker if you only have general waste or construction material.
District Town Residents $35.00 per year
NON District Town Residents $50.00 per year
Seniors District Town $10.00 per year
Seniors NON District Town $50.00 per year
One time Fees to drop off recycling, $ 5.00 each visit
Sticker sales help support the cost of shipping and disposal of recycling materials.

*Plastic shopping bags and bulky ridged plastic are NOT accepted as recyclable but should be included with your household garbage.

BASICS
- Recycle all bottles, cans and paper.
- Keep items clean and dry.
- No plastic bags in the recycling. (return to store only)
- Keep ALL liquid and food scraps out of your recycling
- Please keep all ceramics out of your recycling
- RECYCLING: (No Charge with Sticker, $5 without Sticker) for:
- Plastic containers NO flower Pots,
- Glass: clear & colored mixed ( NO Window Pane Glass or Ceramics)
- Cans: Empty, ALL CONTAINERS MUST BE CLEAN ( All it takes is a small amount of contaminates to ruin a ton of good recyclables)
- Paper: Newspapers, magazines, stationery tied or in a paper bag, etc.
- Cardboard: Flattened
- Leaves and Grass clippings are free of charge to all 6 Island towns residents year round, (only at the Edgartown facility). Brush is also accepted “per weight charge”over the scale or be the barrel.
